Strength in Numbers – FOCA

One of the expenses for which a portion of your annual fees for membership in the Limerick Waterways’ Ratepayers Association (LWRA) go towards is membership in the Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations (FOCA).
FOCA is a collective of cottagers’ associations across Ontario which represents us all on many concerns, including issues such as water quality monitoring and waterfront taxation. FOCA members are eligible for many benefits such as discounts on admission to the Cottage Life Show which takes place in Toronto from October 24 to 26 this year, cottage insurance, boater’s licence fees and a host of other related products and services. You can check it all out by going to the FOCA website at: http://www.foca.on.ca

If you like you can sign up for FOCA’s email Elerts which will be emailed directly to you as a member of the LWRA whenever they are published.

What does FOCA do?
FOCA sits at the table where individuals cannot.

Over the past year, FOCA has:

Continued to lobby at the Ontario Energy Board for fair energy rates.
Co-hosted public meetings alerting Eastern Ontario property owners about developments in the Algonquin Land Claim.
Secured Mining Act changes that enhance rural property owners’ land rights re: exploration.
Lobbied for clearer recognition of the significance of waterfront lands, through our participation in the Provincial Policy Statement review.
Spoken out about the closure of the Experimental Lakes Area, changes to the Fisheries Act and the environmental impact of federal and provincial omnibus bills.
Reviewed emergency preparedness in rural Ontario with municipal and other partners following 2013 spring flooding.

Advocacy & Government Relations:
FOCA is the only province-wide voice for Ontario cottagers and waterfront property owners. We keep you up to date on changes in legislation and other timely news. FOCA advocates at the federal, provincial and regional levels on priorities that affect waterfront property owners.
All FOCA members are eligible to receive FOCA Email Elerts to learn about updates on topics that matter.
